Why convert TTF to WOFF?

People make this switch when they run into the limits of TTF: serving fonts on a website — WOFF2 is far smaller. WOFF is the better fit when you must support browsers from before roughly 2016.

TTF limitations that prompt the switch: Uncompressed, so it wastes bandwidth as a web font. Fewer advanced typographic features than OpenType.
What you give up: Around 30% larger than WOFF2. Superseded for any modern browser target.

What is preserved when converting TTF to WOFF?
