What “uploaded” normally means. On most online converters, pressing the button copies your file across the internet onto a computer owned by that website. That copy is what the word “upload” means, and it is the part nobody explains.

What happens instead. This site does not do it. There is no server here that receives files, so your HEIC file is read, converted and handed back by the browser you are using right now. It never travels — so there is no copy to store, read, leak or hand over.

Why this matters more than it sounds

PDF is the format people use for exactly the documents they would not hand to a stranger. It matters more than it sounds, because of what PDFs usually are:

income, dependants, tax file or social security numbers

Passport and visa scans

the single most useful document for identity theft

Medical letters and results

a diagnosis is not something to leave on a server

A file that is never sent cannot be kept, leaked, subpoenaed or used to train anything. That is a property of how this works, not a promise about how carefully it is run.

HEIC and PDF explained

HEIC is the container Apple uses for photos taken on iPhone since iOS 11, holding images compressed with HEVC. It stores roughly the same visual quality as JPEG in about half the space, and can hold extras such as depth maps and Live Photo frames.

PDF describes a page as a fixed arrangement of text, vector graphics and images. Unlike a word processor document, it is designed so the page looks identical everywhere — which is exactly why it is awkward to edit.

Why convert HEIC to PDF?

Converting HEIC images to PDF packages them into a single paginated document. That matters when you are submitting scans, assembling receipts, or sending several images to someone who should receive one file rather than an inbox full of attachments.

HEIC limitations that prompt the switch
Poor support outside Apple platforms — Windows needs a paid codec, many web apps reject it. Encumbered by HEVC patent licensing, which is why adoption stalled. Older Android devices cannot open it at all.
What you give up
Genuinely hard to edit — it stores positioned glyphs, not paragraphs. Scanned PDFs contain no text at all until OCR is run.

Does converting HEIC to PDF reduce quality?

Going from HEIC to PDF moves already-compressed data into a format that stores it exactly. Nothing is lost from this point on, but nothing is recovered either — the detail HEIC discarded when the file was first created is gone permanently. Expect a noticeably larger file for identical visual quality.

Is it safe to convert HEIC files here — are they uploaded to a server?

Nothing is logged about the file either: not its name, not its size, not its contents. The one thing worth saying plainly is that this protects the file in transit and at rest on our side, not from anything already on your own computer.
