This runs a salient-object model — U²-Net, 4 MB — in your browser to work out what the picture is actually of, then refits the edge to the photograph itself so hair and thin detail survive. It handles ordinary cluttered photographs: a car in a car park, a person on a street. The model is downloaded once from this site, never a third party, and cached afterwards; until it has loaded, or if it cannot, the tool falls back to the older edge-based method and tells you so. Nothing is perfect — check the result before relying on it, and turn off "keep only the main subject" if your picture genuinely contains several separate things.
