Does converting to PNG reduce quality?

Nothing is re-encoded — the content is taken out of the RAW container as-is, so its quality is unchanged.

How large a file can I convert?

Up to 120 MB per file for this conversion. Because the work happens in your browser, the practical limit is your device's memory — larger files work on a desktop with plenty of RAM and may fail on an older phone.

Can I convert several files at once?

Can I use this on my phone?

RAW and PNG explained

A camera RAW file is the sensor's unprocessed readout, plus the camera's settings as metadata. It is not really an image yet: it has to be developed, which is why the same RAW can produce very different-looking photos.

PNG is a lossless raster format built to replace GIF. It stores every pixel exactly as given and supports a full 8-bit alpha channel, which means genuine partial transparency rather than the single transparent colour GIF offers.

Where RAW files come from: Interchangeable-lens cameras and phones shooting in professional mode.
Where PNG is used: Screenshots, exported logos and UI assets, and anything designed rather than photographed.

The two formats solve different problems, which is why converting between them involves trade-offs rather than a straight upgrade.

RAW is stronger at: Maximum editing latitude — recover blown highlights and lifted shadows. 12 or 14 bits per channel instead of JPEG's 8. White balance and exposure remain fully adjustable after the fact.
PNG is stronger at: Completely lossless — re-saving never degrades the image. Full alpha transparency, including soft edges and shadows. Sharp text and hard edges stay sharp.

Why convert RAW to PNG?

People make this switch when they run into the limits of RAW: you want to share, upload or print directly. PNG is the better fit when the image has transparency, text, screenshots, logos, or you need an exact pixel-for-pixel copy.

RAW limitations that prompt the switch: Every manufacturer has its own incompatible variant. Very large files. Cannot be viewed or shared without conversion.
What you give up: Much larger than JPEG or WebP for photographic content. No animation in practice (APNG exists but support is inconsistent).

Does converting RAW to PNG reduce quality?

Both formats store the content without discarding data, so this conversion preserves it exactly. The file size may change because the two formats compress differently, but the content itself is unaffected.

Converting a JPEG to PNG does not improve its quality. It freezes the image exactly as it already is, artefacts included, in a larger file.
