Is it safe? Your RAW file is not uploaded anywhere

What “uploaded” normally means. On most online converters, pressing the button copies your file across the internet onto a computer owned by that website. That copy is what the word “upload” means, and it is the part nobody explains.

What happens instead. This site does not do it. There is no server here that receives files, so your RAW file is read, converted and handed back by the browser you are using right now. It never travels — so there is no copy to store, read, leak or hand over.

Why this matters more than it sounds

Photographs carry more than what is in the frame — most also carry the time, the device and often the GPS coordinates where they were taken. It matters more than it sounds, because of what images usually are:

A file that is never sent cannot be kept, leaked, subpoenaed or used to train anything. That is a property of how this works, not a promise about how carefully it is run.

RAW and JPG explained

A camera RAW file is the sensor's unprocessed readout, plus the camera's settings as metadata. It is not really an image yet: it has to be developed, which is why the same RAW can produce very different-looking photos.

JPEG is a lossy image format designed for photographs. It works by discarding detail the human eye is least likely to notice, particularly in colour and in smooth gradients, which is why it compresses photos far better than it compresses text or line art.

Why convert RAW to JPG?

People make this switch when they run into the limits of RAW: you want to share, upload or print directly. JPG is the better fit when you are sharing a photograph and compatibility matters more than squeezing out the last few kilobytes.

No transparency — there is no alpha channel at all. Visible artefacts around sharp edges and text.

Does converting RAW to JPG reduce quality?

A JPG file holds one part of what an RAW file contains. That part is taken out as it is, and everything else in the container is left behind rather than converted. Nothing is re-encoded in the process, so the extracted content keeps whatever quality it already had.

Saving a JPEG at 100% quality is still lossy — it is a large file that has been through the same discarding process, not a lossless copy.
