MPEG and MP4 explained

MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 program streams are the formats behind Video CDs and DVDs. They are decades old and very inefficient by modern standards.

MP4 is a container, not a codec. It usually holds H.264 video and AAC audio, and that specific combination is the closest thing the internet has to a universal video format.

Where MPEG files come from: DVD rips, old camcorders and broadcast archives.
Where MP4 is used: Phone cameras, screen recorders, and every video streaming platform.

Why convert MPEG to MP4?
