OGV and WAV explained
OGV is the Ogg container carrying Theora video, an early royalty-free codec that has been comprehensively superseded by VP9 and AV1.
WAV stores uncompressed PCM audio — the raw samples, exactly as captured. A stereo CD-quality minute is roughly 10 MB, which is the price of having no compression whatsoever.
- Where OGV files come from
- Open-source projects and Wikipedia media from the early 2010s.
- Where WAV is used
- Recording sessions, sample libraries and audio editing.
