OGV and AVI explained

OGV is the Ogg container carrying Theora video, an early royalty-free codec that has been comprehensively superseded by VP9 and AV1.

AVI is a Microsoft container from 1992. It predates modern video compression and lacks features taken for granted today, such as proper support for variable frame rates and modern codec metadata.

Where OGV files come from: Open-source projects and Wikipedia media from the early 2010s.
Where AVI is used: Old camcorders, legacy Windows software and archived downloads.
