Text, structure and images carry over faithfully. Exact page layout does not, because PDF lays content out differently from ODS. Check headings, tables and page breaks in the result.

ODS and PDF explained

ODS is the OpenDocument spreadsheet format, the open-standard counterpart to XLSX used by LibreOffice Calc.

PDF describes a page as a fixed arrangement of text, vector graphics and images. Unlike a word processor document, it is designed so the page looks identical everywhere — which is exactly why it is awkward to edit.

Where ODS files come from: LibreOffice Calc and open-standards environments.
Where PDF is used: Contracts, invoices, reports, forms, academic papers and scanned documents.

The two formats solve different problems, which is why converting between them involves trade-offs rather than a straight upgrade.

Why convert ODS to PDF?

People make this switch when they run into the limits of ODS: sharing complex workbooks with Excel users. PDF is the better fit when sharing a finished document where the layout must not move.

ODS limitations that prompt the switch: Excel support is imperfect, particularly for complex formulas. Less common in business.
What you give up: Genuinely hard to edit — it stores positioned glyphs, not paragraphs. Scanned PDFs contain no text at all until OCR is run.

What is preserved when converting ODS to PDF?

Both formats store the content without discarding data, so this conversion preserves it exactly. The file size may change because the two formats compress differently, but the content itself is unaffected.

A PDF full of scanned pages is a stack of pictures, not a document. Selecting text is impossible until OCR has been run over it.
