ODS is the OpenDocument spreadsheet format, the open-standard counterpart to XLSX used by LibreOffice Calc.

XLSX is Excel's modern format — a ZIP of XML holding cells, formulas, formatting, multiple sheets, charts and pivot tables.

Why convert ODS to XLSX?

People make this switch when they run into the limits of ODS: sharing complex workbooks with Excel users. XLSX is the better fit when the data needs calculation, formatting or more than one sheet.

ODS limitations that prompt the switch: Excel support is imperfect, particularly for complex formulas. Less common in business.
What you give up: Harder to parse programmatically than CSV. Formula compatibility varies between applications.

What is preserved when converting ODS to XLSX?
