Privacy, in plain words
What “uploaded” normally means. On most online converters, pressing the button copies your file across the internet onto a computer owned by that website. That copy is what the word “upload” means, and it is the part nobody explains.
What happens instead. This site does not do it. There is no server here that receives files, so your WMA file is read, converted and handed back by the browser you are using right now. It never travels — so there is no copy to store, read, leak or hand over.

An audio file is a conversation. Transcribed by machine — which is cheap now — it becomes searchable text about whoever was speaking. It matters more than it sounds, because of what audio files usually are:

A file that is never sent cannot be kept, leaked, subpoenaed or used to train anything. That is a property of how this works, not a promise about how carefully it is run.
WMA is Microsoft's audio format from the Windows Media era. It is functionally obsolete and some older files carry DRM that prevents conversion.
MP3 is the lossy audio format that made digital music portable. Its patents expired in 2017, which is part of why it remains ubiquitous — anyone can implement it freely.
The two formats solve different problems, which is why converting between them involves trade-offs rather than a straight upgrade.

People make this switch when they run into the limits of WMA: always — convert to MP3 to keep the audio usable. MP3 is the better fit when you need audio that will play anywhere, on anything, without question.
Both WMA and MP3 are lossy, so this is a re-encode: the file is decoded and compressed again. At the default quality setting the difference is very hard to see, but each successive re-encode compounds. If you will need the file again later, keep the WMA original rather than converting back and forth.
The MP3 came out 1.4× larger than the file that went in.
