What “uploaded” normally means. On most online converters, pressing the button copies your file across the internet onto a computer owned by that website. That copy is what the word “upload” means, and it is the part nobody explains.

Why this matters more than it sounds

A Word file is usually a draft — which means it carries the things that were not meant to be final, and often tracked changes and comments nobody removed. It matters more than it sounds, because of what documents usually are:

TXT and PDF explained

Plain text is characters and nothing else — no fonts, no sizes, no layout. It is the most durable digital format there is, readable by every computer built in the last fifty years.

PDF describes a page as a fixed arrangement of text, vector graphics and images. Unlike a word processor document, it is designed so the page looks identical everywhere — which is exactly why it is awkward to edit.

Why convert TXT to PDF?

What is preserved when converting TXT to PDF?

The content survives; the layout is rebuilt. Text and the order it is read in carry across, but PDF lays the page out again rather than reproducing TXT's exact positioning, so line breaks, page breaks and spacing will differ. Anything that depends on precise placement is worth checking in the result.

A PDF full of scanned pages is a stack of pictures, not a document. Selecting text is impossible until OCR has been run over it.
