Privacy, in plain words
What “uploaded” normally means. On most online converters, pressing the button copies your file across the internet onto a computer owned by that website. That copy is what the word “upload” means, and it is the part nobody explains.
What happens instead. This site does not do it. There is no server here that receives files, so your document is read, converted and handed back by the browser you are using right now. It never travels — so there is no copy to store, read, leak or hand over.

A Word file is usually a draft — which means it carries the things that were not meant to be final, and often tracked changes and comments nobody removed. It matters more than it sounds, because of what documents usually are:
Employment contracts
salary, notice periods, restraint clauses
A CV or résumé
home address, phone number, date of birth, full work history
Legal letters and NDAs
privileged material, and named third parties
Tenancy and loan agreements
identity details plus your financial position
A file that is never sent cannot be kept, leaked, subpoenaed or used to train anything. That is a property of how this works, not a promise about how carefully it is run.
For writing a README, a changelog or a note when you would rather press a button than recall the syntax. You format the document on screen and the Markdown is written for you.
It is also a quick way to get something out of a web page and into Markdown: paste it in and the headings, lists and tables are converted along with everything else.
Each control marks up real structure, and the converter carries that into the Markdown file. A heading becomes a heading in the file's outline, not just larger text; a bullet list becomes a real list; a table becomes a table with cells.
That matters more than it sounds. Structure is what lets a screen reader announce your headings, and a word processor show an outline you can collapse. Text that has merely been made bigger and bolder has none of that.
There is no control for typeface, text size or colour on individual words, and that is deliberate rather than unfinished. Those would be per-word styling, and the honest position is that a button which silently does nothing is worse than one that is not there.
Document-level choices — page size and the typeface for the whole document — are in the settings panel beside the editor, because they apply to the finished file rather than to a selection.
Images cannot be placed from the editor. Everything here is text you typed or pasted, which is also why nothing has to be uploaded.
