Pulling pages out into a new document
Extraction is the opposite way round from deletion: you name the pages you want and get those, rather than naming the pages you do not. The result is one new PDF containing your selection in the order you gave, and the original is untouched.
This is usually the faster route to a small file. Taking four pages out of two hundred gives you something about one-fiftieth of the size, with no compression and no quality cost — where compressing the whole document might save a third.
- One file, not many
- Extracting pages 2, 5 and 9 produces a single three-page document. Splitting is the tool for turning one file into several.
- Order follows your selection
- Asking for 9, 2, 5 gives them in that order, which makes this a quick way to reorder a handful of pages.
